Approved Statnett’s concept study (KVU) for Helgeland

Important milestone for Holandsvika achieved

Ministry of Energy approves Helgeland KVU – a key milestone for green industry

The Norwegian Ministry of Energy has today approved Statnett’s concept study (KVU) for Helgeland. The decision means that the development of the transmission grid in the region can move forward with the recommended Concept 1 – a stepwise expansion that increases capacity and provides flexibility to meet future energy needs.

For Gen2 Energy, this is a crucial clarification. Our plans for producing green hydrogen are entirely dependent on access to large amounts of renewable energy. With today’s approval, we gain predictability and can continue to develop our projects knowing that the necessary grid capacity will be built.

This is an important decision, not only for Gen2 Energy but for the entire industry in Helgeland. We can now take further steps towards realizing green value creation and the export of renewable solutions, says Heine Rønningen.

What does the decision mean?

  • Statnett can proceed with planning and license applications for Concept 1
  • The grid development will take place step by step, with new 420 kV transmission lines and increased transformer and transfer capacity
  • The goal is to facilitate industrial growth in hydrogen, ammonia, and other power-intensive industries, while balancing costs and environmental considerations
