Gen2 Energy AS granted tax relief within SkatteFUNN up to NOK 7,7 million.

Gen2 Energy has been granted tax relief up to NOK 7,7 million for developing container and vessel solutions as the key elements in a large-scale supply chain for green hydrogen.

The Norwegian Research Council (NRC) has approved two multi-year SkatteFUNN projects in Gen2 Energy. The approval gives Gen2 Energy the right to claim a tax deduction for relevant and documentable costs related to research and development activities in the approved projects for the period from 2021 to 2023.

In the container project Gen2 Energy aim to develop a novel container suitable for large volumes (ca. 1 ton) of compressed H2 that is safe to densely store, move and transport in large numbers. Important aspects in the R&D project are to develop solutions for minimising Kg tank/Kg H2 with low carbon footprint materials and components and for rapid and safe connections compatible with user interfaces. Identifying missing regulations, requirements and developing procedures to secure safety handling of large volumes (e.g. periodic leak check at 500 bar) are also key elements in the project.

In the vessel project the target is to develop a new vessel to safely and efficiently transport large numbers of compressed H2 containers. This include identifying the best ship concept for H2 cargo according to volumes, routes and safety and the best loading concept and system for loading/unloading the containers. Modelling and simulating preferred vessel concept for transport and handling large-scale compressed H2 containers are a vital part of the project.

– The R&D project approvals from the Norwegian Research Council confirms that Gen2 Energy is a knowledge-based frontrunner in the hydrogen race in Norway when it comes to R&D activities. Gen2 Energy’s innovative solutions for transporting and delivering large volumes of green hydrogen are based on targeted research activities, says Svein-Erik Figved, Director of RDI in Gen2 Energy.

– By creating new knowledge based on research activities and developing cost-effective solutions for transporting and delivering large volumes of containerized compressed hydrogen Gen2 Energy is substantially improving their position in serving growing markets in Europe with green hydrogen, says Jonas Meyer, CEO in Gen2 Energy.
